No objection to hosting Commonwealth Summit, but we oppose the corruption taking place; UNP

UNP Working Committee convened today(13) once again under the patronage of Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe at the Sirikotha Party Headquarters.At the meeting it was assured that the United National Party had no objection with regard to hosting the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Sri Lanka this November. However it was stressed that the UNP opposes the increase in the price of goods carried out by the government on the pretext of preparation work for the summit.


The Working Committee had also identified that the government was bringing down 10 new aero planes for Sri Lankan Airlines and was wasting funds on several other unessential matters and thus burdening the public, at a time the Commonwealth had provided funds to Sri Lanka for hosting the summit.

Meanwhile, 5 electoral organizers were removed from their positions as they had failed to meet the party’s targets. Meanwhile, several new appointments were also made in order to fill in vacant electoral positions of the party.
