Re-establishment of ICs derailed by 13-A debate - Ranil

Now that elections to the Northern, Central and North-Western Provincial Councils had been tentatively fixed for the last week of September, the government should, as a matter of priority, re-establish all Independent Commissions, UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe said in Colombo yesterday.

UNP opposes dilution of 13-A- Govt. split due to its own folly

The UNP said yesterday that it was opposed to the dilution of the 13th Amendment to the Constitution as proposed by the government.UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake, MP, told a news conference in Colombo that the 13th Amendment was a sequel to an accord between two sovereign nations and not a private agreement between Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and President J. R. Jayewardene, as claimed by their critics.

13th should be changed in collaboration with India!

The UNP states that Sri Lanka does not have the right to amend the 13th amendment on its own. Speaking at a press conference held in Colombo today, UNP General Secretary Parliamentarian Thissa Attanayaka stated that no one party has the right to amend an agreement which was reached by two countries.
