Juniour Rambukwella’s antics shamed entire Asia – UNP

The UNP yesterday said that Minister Keheliya Rambukwella’s son, Sri Lanka ‘A’ team cricketer, Ramith’s behaviour aboard a British Airways flight would tarnish not only the country’s image but also bring shame up the entire of Asia.

UNP Badulla District MP Harin Fernando told a press conference that Sri Lanka’s ‘A’ cricket team were the only Asians in the packed Boeing 777 aircraft, in which cricketer Ramith mistakenly tried to force open a cabin door at a height of 35,000 feet, mistaking it for the toilet door.

Fernando said that British and other non-Asian passengers shouted ‘Bloody Asian Idiots’, ‘Asian Idiots’ when Ramith Rambukwella created a scene there.

He said that other players too couldn’t stop him because he was wearing the headphones.

"Not only Minister Rambulwella’s son, most ministerial sons act like this, but are not given publicity," Fernando said.

He said that recently a powerful son of a top UPFA government personality allegedly attacked a rugby coach, but no action was taken against him nor did the national media report the incident.

Media and Information Minister Keheliya Rambukwella told a separate press conference that his son was innocent and one source of media reports was questionable.

British Airways described the incident as minor, after his son apologized to the cabin crew, he said.

"However, I know the incident very well, but can’t comment as there is a disciplinary inquiry going on into the incident," Rambukwella said.

The minister said that as a father he asked his son to accept any decision taken by the disciplinary inquiry.
