Reservoirs full, govt. should reduce electricity price - Wijedasa

The government should honor its pledge and reduce the price of electricity since the reservoirs were now full, UNP MP Wijedasa Rajapakshe said yesterday. He told a news conference in Colombo that the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) had said that when the cost of producing electricity dropped, it would pass down the benefit to the masses.

The reservoirs were brimming due toheavy rains that have been experienced in recent weeks, but there was no indication of any reduction in power prices, Rajapakshe noted.

The MP said that the government was begging and borrowing at high commercial rates, which had only resulted in the debt burden rising further. By the end of next year there would not be even a cent of revenue left.

Sri Lanka, had become a colony of China and was being ruled by ‘the CEO’ it had appointed. The loans had to be repaid, but whatever revenue that was generated was being guzzled up by interest repayments, Rajapaksa said, noting that the public sector had been ruined by political appointees who had neither training nor experience to handle such duties.
