Ranil urges govt. to be in touch with Bodh Gaya bombing probe

Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe yesterday, in Parliament, requested the government to be in touch with the Indian government on the on-going investigations into the bomb attacks at the Bodh Gaya Temple.Making a special statement, he said that despite there being intelligence reports warning of possible attacks on the sacred site, the administrative committee of the Bodh Gaya temple had not taken proper security measures to counter threats.

The Bihar state government and Indian Central Government should answer for the security lapses in Bodh Gaya.

"Even the President has condemned this attack. I wrote a book on Buddhism and Bodh Gaya. The problem is that the CID comes and interrogates us when we write on Buddhism," he said.

External Affairs Minister, Prof. G.L. Peiris said President Mahinda Rajapaksa had spoken to the Chief Minister of Bihar state and was keeping in close contact with Indian authorities regarding the on-going investigations into the bomb attacks at the Bodh Gaya Temple.

The Minister said it had been established that the attack was in no way connected to the situation in Sri Lanka. (SI)
