Victory is near: UNP’s 67th anniversary theme, with youth to the fore

The 67th Anniversary of the UNP will be celebrated at Sirikotha tomorrow under the theme, ‘Jaya Langai’ (Victory Is Near).UNP MP Harin Fernando said that the younger generation would be given pride of place at the anniversary celebrations as the Rajapaksa government had duped them by dangling programmes such as the ‘Tharunayata Hetak’, which was purely a political movement to promote the SLFP.

Unemployment had increased to unprecedented levels, while the cost of living had spiraled beyond the reach of the common man, MP Fernando noted.

The MP pointed out that the highway projects, which were given wide publicity, had not benefitted the unemployed youth at all, but a select group in the government who were getting richer by the day.

All sectors including education had been politicised, resulting in the younger generation being left confused and wondering what their

future would be, MP Fernando said.

The masses were fed up with the bogus promises that had been heaped on them. It was a matter of time before the UNP’s anniversary theme ‘Jaya Langai’ would become a reality and a new era would dawn, Fernando predicted.

UNP MP Ruwan Wijewardena called on the youth to raise their voice against state terrorism so that they could live as free citizens without fear of being abducted, raped or killed in broad daylight. Their many grievances, he said, would be addressed by a future UNP government.
