The Govt is expecting to create and maintain a hostile environment for the democracy in Sri Lanka- UNP

United National Party condemns the Assault made on Uthayan Newa paper office today (13) as another disgusting and cowardly step in Government terrorism. The party says that it is the intention of the Govt to create a violent environment and continuing it.These remarks were made in a media release issued by the Secretary of the United National Party Mr. Tissa Attanayaka. The Media announcement is as follows..

“ We, as the chief opposition party in the country strongly condemn the disgusting act of the armed gang who had broken in to the Uthayan News paper office premises, shot the computers and burned the building, today (13) around 5.00 am, just on the verge of Sinhala-Hindu New year, a time of peace and unity.

This is the fourth time this news paper office was attacked and now Mahinda Rajapaksa Government must take the full responsibility of this marauds act.

Every society must have the freedom to democratically express its own views and especially it is a must for good governance, the ability to criticize the Govt. Murderous terrorists like LTTE did not give a nickel about that right. And now with these atrocities, the Govt is showing the world that it too bears the same political attitudes of the LTTE. The LTTE terrorism has been replaced by Government terrorism. And by this the Govt implies that ideological politics has no room in Sri Lanka. It is an ironical way of justifying the violent political methods of the LTTE.

According to what we see by replacing the Tiger terrorism with state terrorism, the Govt is expecting to create and maintain a hostile environment for the democracy in Sri Lanka. Then the hidden intention of the Govt, to bring in the Emergency laws and rule the country under the jackboot of State power, crushing the people’s voice and robbing the victory of the oncoming Northern provincial council election, can be brought in to life. But we guarantee that the day the people of Sri Lanka defeat the State terrorism as they did to the LTTE terrorism in not far away.”
