Rosy says women in SL must fight for their rights

UNP Parliamentarian Rosy Senanayake says that Sri Lankan women will not be able to secure more political representation unless they fight for their rights. The MP made this statement at an event held in Colombo. An open forum on the subject Getting the Balance Right: Gender equality and political representation of women was held at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute in Colombo on Friday evening. '...
I know my party has periodically had a separate manifesto for women, and in these manifestos it has been said that we would give 33 percent and we would work for the betterment of women. But the present government also in their last election manifesto and the previous election manifesto promised to give twenty five percent nominations for women, But it didn't happen, so it doesn't happen, unless the women in this country would seriously look at fighting for their rights. When it comes to women's rights are talking about women in the decision making realm, very few people would have a dialogue with regard to that,' stated UNP Parliamentarian Rosy Senanayake.
