How many of these casinos are registered, asks Dr. Harsha

Speaking at a media briefing convened on Friday, UNP MP Dr. Harsha de Silva commented on several fiscal bills that are to be tabled in Parliament next week pertaining to the 2013 Budget. 'What the government is trying to do now is to secure loans through affiliated institutions rather than securing it themselves. Then the debt accumulated by the government does not increase.

There are nine casinos in Colombo. I asked the head of Inland Revenue as to how many of these casinos are registered. She said that only five have been registered. Doesn't this government which imposes a tax of 85 rupees on a tin of salmon that the poor consume, see the casinos on either side of the road. The government charges a tax of 28 rupees on a 100 rupee reload. When the electricity bill of a normal household which consumes 40 units, increases by 58 percent, we wonder what this government is doing. Why don't they tax people who make millions per night,' stated UNP MP Dr. Harsha de Silva.
