UNP Hambantota District MP Sajith Premadasa yesterday (14) said that the SLFP had become a labour room where political delinquents were delivered.

Addressing party supporters, at a meeting after the Sasunata Aruna programme, at the Paramadhammanivesa Piriven Vihara in Boralesgamuwa, to donate Rs. 50,000 to the temple, MP Premadasa said the rule of law had collapsed. "Under the rule of very same leaders who boast of morals, values and ethics, moral values have eroded. Fraud, corruption, bribe taking, extortion, rape of women and child abuse are crimes that SLFP politicians commit on a daily basis. The SLFP has become a breeding ground for such rogue politicians at the local government level," he said.

Premadasa said though the politicians were expected to of exemplary character, the opposite was true. "Look at the examples of Pradeshiya Sabha chairmen of Akuressa, Walallavita and Yatiyanthota, Kahawatta. The case of North Central Provincial Council member making a teacher kneel down is just another example. All of them are government politicians. People should take the lead to remove these elements from politics," Premadasa said, adding that unless they did so the future would be bleak for their children.

The people could make use of the elections due in September to kick SLFP politicians out of power, MP Pemadasa said. "We should consider the elections in the North-Western and Central Provinces the best opportunities we have been given. The UNP should make use of this chance to strive to turn the tables on the government. People should vote for the UNP in these provinces and weed out the corrupt SLFP elements. We in the UNP should realise that if we could win these two provinces, the winning of the next Presidential and general elections would not be so difficult."

The Hambantota District MP said that people in the North should not vote for parties that espoused racism. "The UNP has never been a racist party. Only under a UNP regime, could the minorities win their rights and live like equal citizens."

UNP Colombo District MP Rosy Senanayake, Western Provincial Council Member and Kesbewa UNP organizer Niroshan Padukka were also present.
